In order to keep our community active while collaborating with institutions that make use of openstreetmap data, we implemented the Mwalai micro grant. This enabled us to collaborate and form partnership with humanitarian organizations and government institutions in Sierra Leone.
In collaboration with the Koidu City Council, we mapped water facilities and added them to openstreetmap. This data was made available to the Koidu City Council and they are using it for planning and potentential expansion of water facilities across the city.
With our vibrant community of YouthMappers, we embarked on the profiling of roads within threes major cities, Kenema, Bo and Makeni. This was for us to upgrade the names of streets on openstreetmap and their conditions. This helped enhance the user experience of platforms that use openstreetmap tools for navigation.
We collaborated with the Rainbo Initiative by training their staff with open mapping and data collection skills. This was follwed by the mapping of psychosocial support centers where victims of rape and other mental challenges were taken care of.
The data that would be collected is added to the OpenstreetMap platform and customised web and printable maps would be produced for the use of our parners. This would enrich the OpenStreetMap platform and enhance the work of our partners.
